In the past, St. John had an annual blues festival organized by a wealthy music-loving resident. When said benefactor left island a few years ago, it looked like he was taking the island festival with him. But not so fast! Enter St. John locals Ronnie Klingsberg (of Ronnie’s Pizza fame) and Ian Samuels, who successfully pulled off their first blues festival in 2014 and have thankfully come back this year for more.
This year the big show is 6pm on Saturday at the Winston Wells school ball field in Cruz Bay. Billed as an “old time” blues show, the line-up on Saturday includes Mitch Woods, Biscuit Miller, Lydia Warren, and the Backtrack Blues Band. There’s a pre-show in Cruz Bay park on Friday night, with local musicians strutting their stuff under the gazebo.
Friday’s show is free for all and while tickets are $40 to enter the field show on Saturday, almost all of Cruz Bay will be able to hear the music. Proceeds from the event fund scholarships at the St. John School of the Arts. Rock on, St. John. http://www.stjohnbluesblowout.com
