2015 St. John Carnival Festival Schedule of Events
While the official “VI Carnival” on St. Thomas is April 4 to May 2, 2015, the best Carnival experience is found on St. John. The 5-week celebration occurs through June every year, ending with a big bang of fireworks over the Cruz Bay harbor on the evening of July 4th.
The St. John Festival and Cultural Organization schedules 5 weeks of Caribbean Carnival celebration with a bevy of family-friendly events, including live music, local food, dancing, parades, fireworks and more.
St. John Carnival commences five Saturdays before July 4th with a steelpan music concert in Cruz Bay. Vendors of fine local crafts setup tents in Cruz Bay park while hardy folks build the stage that will showcase most of the festival events in the coming days.
That upcoming Friday, June 5, 2015 marks the annual Beach Jam on Cruz Bay beach. With a mix of music talents and characters, the St. John Carnival Beach Jam is a must for anyone with happy feet and the will to stay up late.
One week later, Seniors strut their stuff for the Senior Variety Show on the stage in the school ball field in Cruz Bay. Cheer for your favorite acts and enjoy local food, drinks and crafts for sale around town.
The day after the St. John Carnival Senior Variety Show is the annual Festival Bike Race, starting at 8am at the National Park lot next to Mongoose Junction in Cruz Bay.
The weekend comes to a close with the Festival Princess Pageant, which starts Sunday night at 6pm on the stage in the ball field.
Two weeks before the end of Carnival St. John really starts to heat up! In the evening on Friday, June 19, 2015, enjoy a mix of Carnival music in the school ball field starting at 9pm. Return the next night to cheer on this year’s Carnival Queen contestants, as they vie for the coveted title starting at 8pm. That Sunday kicks into gear with the opening of the food fair and Children’s Carnival Village in the national park field in Cruz Bay.
Don’t miss the last weekend of St. John Carnival, where residents and visitors alike really let loose. The Adult Carnival Village opens at 7pm on Friday, July 3rd with local music and libations. Early the next morning marks J’ouvert (pronounced ju-vay), a joyous street party where revelers dance at daybreak and celebrate freedom with abandon. J’ouvert leads into the Carnival Parade, a festival of Caribbean sounds that meanders without a schedule around the streets of Cruz Bay all day. Event goers line the streets, and the bar seats, around town to watch the colorful floats, mocka jumbies and Carnival dancers parade through town. The weekend, and the St. John Carnival, culminate with a spectacular fireworks display over Cruz Bay harbor at 9pm on July 4th, followed by a lively beach concert that continues well into the evening.
