This weekend I was reminded of the talented artists who call St. John home. The beauty of St. John Island inspires many to express themselves and be creative. On Saturday I attended “An Evening with the Arts” series at the Kimberly Boulon Fine Art Gallery (www.kimberlyboulon.com) at the Marketplace in Cruz Bay. The show demonstrated the depth of island talent and the brilliant colors of St. John at every turn. From sculptures to paintings, writing to dancing, jewelry to music, the effort showcased local artisans at their best.
The popular event combined visual and performing arts in collaboration with the St. John School of the Arts (SJSA) and eleven independent artists creating one-of-a-kind artwork. I couldn’t possibly do them all justice here, so I’ll mention just one and leave the rest for you to experience yourself!
Artist George Hollander is as unique and interesting as his modern light sculptures. Beyond any “lamp” you could ever conceive, George builds artwork with the perfect glow. Here he is with just one of several pieces on display at the show. For more of George’s custom lighting designs, checkout http://georgehollander.com/lighting.html
